Verizon Wireless LTE Network Commercial Deployment in 2010

Verizon Wireless revealed late last year that it will accelerate the build out of its LTE wireless network in 2009. The company is hoping for a commercial deployment in 2010. Some experts believe that the LTE technology that was chosen by Verizon Wireless is the future of wireless broadband. Let's look at the Verizon Wireless LTE network story.

The Verizon Wireless LTE network relationship began when the company announced plans to develop and deploy its fourth generation mobile broadband network using Long Term Evolution. The Verizon Wireless LTE network will take the company and its business to the future.

Long Term Evolution is the technology that will bring Verizon Wireless into the future. Verizon Wireless LTE network have already began to conduct tests to see the speeds that can be achieved using this technology. The results are very promising.

Verizon Wireless LTE network tests indicate that download rates have an average of 50-60Mbps. These numbers were taken from Verizon Wireless LTE network trials in the uncluttered airwaves of Minneapolis, Columbus, Ohio, and northern New Jersey. However, the real time speed of this mobile broadband technology is expected to be lower.

However, Long Term Evolution is not the only technology being considered as the future of wireless broadband. WIMAX is also expected to provide similar speeds to LTE. This means that the Verizon Wireless LTE network partnership will have some competition in the future.

Verizon Wireless LTE network is not the sole Long Term Evolution initiative in the market. Vodafone is also running LTE trials in various European cities. Handset makers have also taken picks in the 4G race. In fact the, it has been rumored that Nokia has been working with Verizon Wireless LTE network to create an exclusive Long Term Evolution mobile phone.

What does the future bring for the Verizon Wireless LTE network? Will the Verizon Wireless LTE network really change the face of wireless broadband? Well, we just have to wait and see.

Sprint's XOHM WiMax Wireless Network Ready for Commercial Launch!

Here's some excellent wireless network news for Sprint subscribers. Sprint and Samsung Electronics Corporation Ltd. has announced that the XOHM wireless network is ready for it's commercial release.

Check out this statement from Barry West, the top man at XOHM:

"This is a major step towards launch readiness and Sprint is extremely pleased with the performance of the mobile WiMAX network and access devices from Samsung. The collaboration with Samsung and our other partners has created a WiMAX ecosystem that has now proven that it can deliver this new technology to the marketplace well ahead of any feasible alternative."

Sprint's XOHM business unit is devoted solely on developing the WiMAX ecosystem and standards to bring the latest broadband wireless technology. Sprint is utilizing the significant spectrum holdings at 2.5 GHz that were combined in the Sprint Nextel merger to deploy mobile WiMAX technology.

The new broadband wireless network from Sprint that offers the speed and mobility of WiMAX has met the demands of rigorous testing. The tests were designed to see if the network can achieve commercial acceptance criteria that includes overall performance, handoff performance and handoff delay.

The extensive evaluation of this high speed wireless network was conducted in the XOHM(TM) lab environment and with the commercial service network being built in the Baltimore and Washington D.C. area. Sprint decided to hold the launching commercial WiMAX service in those cities later this year after the vital technical milestone was achieved in the tests.

The wireless network has introduced several WiMAX-enabled devices in preparation for the launching of XOHM. The Express Card (E100 PC Card) and WiMAX embedded UMPC (Q1 Ultra Premium Mobile PC) are already in place for the WiMAX systems being deployed for Sprint in Baltimore and Washington D.C.

Sprint Nextel and Clearwire Resume WiMax Talks

According to numerous reports, major wireless phone carrier Sprint Nextel and Clearwire have resumed talks that have stalled last year.

Clearwire Corp. is a wireless Internet provider that is in negotiation with Sprint in an effort to combine their high-speed wireless WiMax networks. The company currently operates pre-WiMax networks in 46 U.S. markets, including Seattle, Syracuse, N.Y., and Duluth, Minn. Wimax networks have the capacity to grant faster wireless Web connection speeds for laptops and cell phones.

Last November, talks about combining the high-speed wireless WiMax networks of both companies have bogged down. As a result of this failure, the shares of the much smaller Clearwire went down to more than 40 percent.

Sprint Nextel may have also been affected by this event as there has been reports that the wireless network may be planning huge lay-off. Some estimated that the major wireless network will give up thousands of employees and make drastic changes within the company. However, other factors may have played a greater role in Sprint's decline.

Fortunately, reports have indicated that these ailing companies have crafted a new plan. Some say that it involves spinning off Sprint's WiMax unit and merging it with Clearwire networks. This venture seems to have caught the attention of Intel Corp. which may be a good source of funds to help seal the deal.

It also appears that the negotiations between the two companies have brought good results. Fro instance, Clearwire shares have skyrocketed and the stock of Sprint Nextel have increased in value. I hope that the talks between these companies will succeed. After all, we can all benefit from the faster online connection that Wimax networks can offer.

WiMAX Soft-launch Announced by Sprint

Let me give you one of the top wireless network news for this week.

Sprint, one of the top wireless service providers has announced that the iMAX networks in Chicago and Baltimore-Washington, D.C. will be turned live sometime this week. However, this soft-launched will only extend to Sprint workers. This move was meant as a preparation for a broader customer trial in the near future. The company will be just under deadline for its promised trial deployment by the end of the year if the WiMAX launch will be done this week.

Everyone in the wireless industry has been waiting for Sprint’s Xohm launch due to its scale and scope. Mobile WiMAX networks using pre-certified IEEE 802.16e equipment have been previously launched by other smaller and international operators.

The announcement also explained that the soft launches will cover the downtown cores of Chicago, Baltimore and Washington. Rapid outward expansion following existing cellular data traffic patterns throughout their respective cities will begin after the initial launches. The upcoming customer trials are intended to be short because they will used to optimize the network for a full commercial launch.

The company has plans to expand its network to 100 million people by the end of the year. It is planning a fully mobile launch from the get-go, starting with laptop wireless cards and eventually moving to mobile devices as they become available unlike other operators deploying the technology for fixed broadband. There are also plans to allow any device or service provider to access the network by offering the service on an open basis.

However, there may also be changes to the grand scope of Sprint's plans change next year. This is due to the re-examination of Xohm plans early next year in the wake of financial difficulties. Financial troubles forced the company and and Clearwire to call off plans to combine their networks.

Sprint's capital investment in the new network only totaled $73 million in the third quarter even though the company declared that it is still committed to seeing WiMAX through. The investment pales in comparison to the $2.5 billion it said it would spend on the project.

Unless Sprint management decides to change up its strategy next quarter, it will proceed with its deployment schedule as planned. About ten thousand 10,000 base station sites, many of them cell sites for its existing CDMA network has been readied for deployment. More news about this development will be released in the nest few days.
